We have slowly but surely seen a new team being formed right under our noses. The MCU spent 10 years building the Infinity Saga. For the most part we, as the internet as a whole, seem to been let down by the direction of Phase 4. Which has honestly confused me. We had no idea where we were going when Nick Fury walked out of the shadows and mentioned the Avengers Initiative. So maybe, if we all just relax and enjoy the ride, we will figure it out. Because the MCU is constantly setting up everything. We’ve been wondering about the Thunderbolts, that’s been a possible idea. Well, a little patience has paid off, cause now we know, they are on their way!
According to Deadline, Kevin Feige is bringing in 2015’s Paper Towns director Jake Schreier to direct the new Marvel tentpole. Eric Pearson, who wrote Black Widow is writing the script. This follows Feige’s tradition of finding young new directors and bringing them into the family. Schriere joins an ever growing list that includes the Russo Brothers, Jon Watts, Ryan Coogler, Chloé Zhao among others.
Created originally by General “Thunderbolt” Ross, The Thunderbolts are kind of Marvel’s own version of The Suicide Squad. All though they mostly filled the ranks with heroes, rather then villains. A few villains have joined the ranks, but for the most part it was the more, violent, heroes.
Some well known members have included Red Hulk, Abomination, Green Goblin, Bullseye, Venom, Ant-Man, Black Widow, Ghost, Deadpool, Electra, Punisher, Winter Soldier, Zemo, Taskmaster, Batroc, Rhino, US Agent, Whiplash, Hawkeye, Ghost Rider, America Chavez, and even Luke Cage. Now looking at that list we can knock a few off the possibilities list, but we’ve also seen a lot of these possibilities in the MCU already.
The Thunderbolts have quietly been getting organized throughout the MCU. The most likely scenario will see the characters we have slowly seen Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis Dreyfus, be the go to team. US Agent, and Yelena Belova. We will more then likely get Abomination as we have been seeing him pop more and more often. And the leader, The Winter Soldier, with Baron Zemo dancing by his side.
Unfortunately, William Hurt, who has played General Ross in the MCU passed away earlier this year. So the possibility of seeing General Ross has a lot of questions around it. The MCU hasn’t shied away from recasting before, but in the wake of one of their own passing, they have not recast. Personally I’d love to see a recast. and if so, how bout the other actor who has played the role? Sam Elliot.
