Sonic The Hedgehog 2 hasn’t even hit theaters yet, and thanks to the Paramount Investors event we already know that a third film is on it’s way. Sonic The Hedgehog was a big hit. Immediately it was hit with controversy as fans hated the look of Sonic in the initial trailer. Paramount went back and made changes and gave us a Sonic that looked more like the hedgehog we grew up loving. The film was a major success. It set the record for the biggest opening weekend for a video game film in the United States, and grossed $319.7 million worldwide, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2020, and is the highest-grossing video game film adaptation of all time in America.
It’s a smart move to get people excited about the 3rd film as we near the release of the second. But that’s not all the info we got out of the Event on our favorite Sega Franchise. It seems Paramount is keen on expanding their Sonic Universe. While I thought that would mean crossovers with Detective Picachu, and Super Mario, and the likes of a Super Smash Bros Universe, so far it only looks to be the Hedgehogs
First up it looks like we are getting a Knuckles spinoff series, that will air exclusively on Paramount+. The series is set to premiere on the streaming service in 2023 and will be a spin-off of the films featuring Knuckles, voiced by Idris Elba who makes his debut in the upcoming Sonic 2
On top of all this news, we have an official look at the brand new poster. A poster that looks like we are going to war for the Chaos Emerald. This sequel seems like it will lean more into source material than the original released in 2020, which was a roadtrip film and sci-fi fish out of water comedy that just happened to include the blue hedgehog.

As far as RUMORS go with he future of this SonicVerse, Giant Freaking Robot is reporting that Aquaman himself is being eyed to voice Shadow in a future Sonic project. In the lore of Sonic, Shadow is an immortal, anthropomorphic black hedgehog created by Doctor Eggman grandfather Professor Gerald Robotnik. After witnessing the murder of his best friend, Shadow vows to keep his promise to her that he would protect the world from danger. Shadow plays more of the anti-hero role, while Sonic is all good. He has good intentions but will do whatever it takes to accomplish his goals, putting him at odds Sonic, serving as one of Sonics greatest rivals, if not the greatest. Shadow shares many attributes with Sonic and thus controls similarly in games, but is distinguished by his use of vehicles and firearms.
