John Cena’s Peacemaker was a break out of The Suicide Squad. Most people will tell you one of, if not their most, favorite scenes was Peacemaker and Bloodsport have a killing competition in the camp. Since it’s release Peacemaker has been one of the best streaming shows out there. John Cena, while unable to be seen in the show, was born to play this part.
Turns out Gunn, Cena, and the good people over at HBO Max seem to feel the same way about the show that we do. As the first season has just wrapped up, we get the news that we will catch back up with Peacemaker, Vigilante, and Eagley in another season of mayhem.
Peacemaker isn’t the only thing on Gunn’s mind though. As the show has been such a hit, Gunn seems to have ideas on other Suicide Squad Spinoff projects. He spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about Peacemaker and other projects with Warner Bros. and DC Films. When talking about the projects to THR, Gunn said:
One of the things that [Warner Bros. chair and CEO] Ann Sarnoff has been big on is trying to make DC work in a more organized and integrated way, I wasn’t there before so I don’t know how things were done but since I started at HBO Max a year and a half ago, we spend a lot of time talking with Toby [Emmerich, Warner Bros. Pictures chair] and Walter [Hamada, president of DC Films] and Jim Lee at DC and we’re trying to be mindful about how all the pieces work together. In my estimation, it feels very well organized. That’s something that was very important to Ann when she started a few years ago.
Head of original content over at HBO Max, Sarah Aubrey, spoke on the news saying:
The brilliance of James Gunn once again shines with Peacemaker. He took this character, brought to life by the inimitable John Cena and created an exceptional series that’s simultaneously thrilling, hilarious and heartfelt, showcasing the humanity beneath this team of misfits living in a superhuman world. As the first original DC show to have its series premiere on HBO Max, we are thrilled that the viewers agreed to give peace a f***ing chance.
Peacemaker has been one my favorite shows this year, and I don’t see it being topped by much. What did you think of the inaugural season? Are you excited for a second? Check out my review right here! And Answer The Call in the comments below with you thoughts of the show!
