Star Trek seems to be all over the news this week with all sorts of shows dates, and movie news! Discovery renewed, Strange New Worlds and Picard get release dates, Lower Decks returns, and Prodigy season 2 is in production. You’d think that’s it, but it’s not. Paramount and JJ Abrams are gearing up to finally return to the Kelvin Timeline for a fourth time.

During the Paramount Investors Day Presentation on Feb. 15, Abrams made the announcement that he and Paramount are planning to enter negotiations for “Star Trek” stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg to return to the Enterprise for their fourth tour of duty in the venerable sci-fi franchise.
Abrams said of the new film:
We are thrilled to say that we are hard at work on a new ‘Star Trek’ film that will be shooting by the end of the year that will be featuring our original cast and some new characters that I think are going to be really fun and exciting and help take ‘Star Trek’ into areas that you’ve just never seen before. We’re thrilled about this film, we have a bunch of other stories that we’re talking about that we think will be really exciting, so can’t wait for you to see what we’re cooking up. But until then, live long and prosper

So not only is Star Trek 4 coming, it will go into production by the end of the year. Seeing’ JJ’s excitement has me excited too. I for one have really enjoyed the Kelvin films, especially Beyond. I hope that alone with the cast we can see the return on Sofia Boutella’s Jaylah, as well as Alice Eve’s Carol Marcus.
Another Interesting question is how will handle Anton Yelchin. Yelchin who played Pavel Chekov in the Kelvin Universe, and has since passed away. He was an incredible choice for Chekov, so the question becomes will they recast, or just write him out. Either way, I have faith that JJ Abrams and his team will do Yelchin honor.
While the Kelvin Universe is gearing up for their return, Strange New Worlds is gearing up for their Debut. The core cast of Strange New Worlds made a huge impact in their own debut on Star Trek: Discovery Season 2. Anson Mount as Capt. Christopher Pike, and Ethan Peck as a young Mr. Spock breathed a life into Discovery that it truly needed. And now we are mere weeks away from boarding the USS Enterprise on television for the first time since the conclusion of Star Trek: Enterprise in 2005. May 5th marks the beginning of the new series that will see Mount and Peck be joined by Rebecca Romijn as first officer Number One, as we explore new worlds throughout the galaxy during the decade before Star Trek: The Original Series.
Discovery has had it’s ups and downs, but mostly ups. And now as the new episodes are rolling out on Paramount Plus the series has now been renewed for a fifth season. Discovery is set over 900 years after the events of TOS, as the crew of the USS Discovery help rebuild the United Federation of Planets following a cataclysmic event. They soon face an unprecedented space anomaly that causes destruction across the galaxy.
The third season of Star Trek: Picard is in production as we finally get the announcement that the second season will finally premier on March 3rd. The sophomore season will see Picard and gang trapped in the 21st century when reality is broken by Q as part of the ultimate trial for Picard. They must race against time to save the future of the galaxy. John de Lancie as Q, an extra-dimensional being of unknown origin who possesses immeasurable power over time, space, the laws of physics, and reality itself, being capable of altering it to his whim.
Star Trek: Lower Decks recently ended it’s second season on a major cliffhanger. A cliffhanger that will be resolved when the ragtag crew of the Cerritos return in summer 2022 with a 10-episode third season. But on top of that, the show has also been renewed for a fourth season already. Along with Lower Decks is Star Trek: Prodigy. Another animated show aimed at a younger audience. They recently wrapped up their first season, and Season 2 is already in production.
So if you are excited for some Star Trek content, you got it. The world of Trek is going no where! Of all these projects what are you most excited for? While I have been dying to see Anson Mount and Ethan Peck return and discover Strange New Worlds, I think the announcement of the return to the Kelvin Universe is what has this Trekkie hyped!!!
