The Tournament Is Koming from Moon Knight Scribe

Mortal Kombat has become the number one watched movie on HBO Max. While the day and date experiment lead to monstrous problems for most franchises within Warner Bros, as well as other business issues, Mortal Kombat seemed to kome out on top. The reboot of the franchise set records for HBO Max and was the most watched movie of their 2021. Given it’s success, as well as the cliffhanger ending we got, it’s no surprise a sequel is on the way.

All seemed quite on the MK front until about a month ago. The Business Insider put out the numbers and we all learned of how success of Mortal Kombat. With that news came more questions of why we hadn’t gotten the announcement of a sequel. Well it looks like WB was just keeping silent while they made moves. Deadline is now reporting that Mortal Kombat 2 is officially in the works, with Jeremy Slater penning the script.

Slater is the head writer on Disney/Marvel’s upcoming Moon Knight series. He is also currently writing a film called Thread for Screen Gems, with James Wan and Atomic Monster producing. He also developed The Umbrella Academy for Netflix.

No other details are set for the sequel. The first film stared Lewis Tan, Hiroyuki Sanada, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Joe Taslim, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Tadanobu Asano and Chin Han. At the very least is pretty safe to say Tan will return as Cole Young. And we will more then likely be seeing the return of Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada as SubZero and Scorpion.

Are you excited to return the world of Mortal Kombat? I for one am! I loved the prequel, er reboot I guess. But I want the tournament, I want Johnny Cage. And I want the Miz as Johnny Cage. Who do you want see play the iconic Cage? Who else would like to see in the tournament? Answer the call in the comments below.
