Disney sure does like their trends. As remaking animated classics into live action films become very profitable for the studio, with he success of the Pirates of The Caribbean franchise, and now Jungle Cruise grossing over $106 million, it looks as if Disney is going to create more films based on park attractions.
With a Pirates Reboot on it’s way, and Jungle Cruise 2 already green lit, next up on Disney’s to-do attraction films is a remake of the Haunted Mansion, which The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively that Owen Wilson has joined the cast. Along side him are Lakieth Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish. Wilson was recently seen on Disney+ in a key role on Marvel’s Loki.
The first Haunted Mansion was released in 2003, and starred Eddie Murphy. The film had an impressive cast that included Terence Stamp, Nathaniel Parker, Marsha Thomason in a dual role, Jennifer Tilly, and Dina Spybey. Directed by Rob Minkoff the film saw financial success but was panned by critics.
Dear White People and Bad Hair director Justin Simien takes the lead on his first big-budget studio film. Katie Dippold developed the script while Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich(Aladdin), are producing via their Rideback banner.
