The acquisition of Fox by Disney raised a lot of questions when it came to the MCU and the X-Men. Most notably the future of the Deadpool franchise. Deadpool was a massive success and the hit sequel has been praised by fans as well. However, the R rated humor and violence isn’t really the Disney/MCU brand. So, the question became, what will happen to Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool? Because to be honest, the Deadpool we have, is the only Deadpool we should get.
Well we finally have our answer. Steve “Frosty” Weintraub of Collider.Com sat down and spoke with the leader of the MCU, Kevin Fiege, and Deadpool was a hot topic. Speaking of the Merc with the mouth’s future Kevin said:
It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.
This is some exciting news. I couldn’t imagine not seeing Deadpool again now that Disney ran things. Something I was really worried about to be honest. Especially the idea that if Disney was going to bring him back he’d be a PG-13 version. Which wouldn’t be the worst, you still get one, maybe two F-Bombs, and a lot of fun could be had by bleeping him out. However Deadpool deserves to be uncensored, and controlled by RyanReynolds. Speaking of Ryan sent out his own affirmation of the news in a retweet of IGN’s Article on the news, as only Deadpool, er Ryan, could.
So now we know we are getting a Deadpool 3. We know he is in the MCU! And we know that sisters Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin and Wendy Molyneux, with help from Reynolds, are hard at work on the script. It’ll be some time before we see this film materialize, as they won’t begin filming until 2022 at the earliest due to Ryan’s schedule. But at least we can take joy in the fact that Deadpool is in his rightful place, in the MCU, with an R Rating.
